Q. What is a service animal? A. The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually TRAINED to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. If they meet this definition, animals are considered service animals under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a state or local government.
Service animals perform some of the functions and tasks that the individual with a disability cannot perform for him or herself. Guide dogs are one type of service animal, used by some individuals who are blind. This is the type of service animal with which most people are familiar. But there are service animals that assist persons with other kinds of disabilities in their day-to-day activities. Some examples include:
_ Alerting persons with hearing impairments to sounds.
_ Pulling wheelchairs or carrying and picking up things for persons with mobility impairments.
_ Assisting persons with mobility impairments with balance.
_Helping a person with a neurological or psychological disability by preventing or disrupting impulses or behaviors that may bring harm to themselves or those around them
A service animal is not a pet.
If your pet has not been TRAINED to perform a task that directly relates to your disability then they are not a service animal. If you are not legally defined as disabled they are not a service animal.
Representing a pet as a service animal is a federal offense and possibly subject to heavy fines and jail time if caught.
Q. How much do service animal IDs cost? A. Custom made tags are $27.95 per set plus shipping and handling.
Q. How do I send you a picture of my service animal? A.If you have a digital photo of your service dog (scanned image or digital photo),Upload Photo Here or attach the file to the email along with your name to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q. I don't know how to attach a file to email or I don't have a digital photo of my dog. A.You can mail the photo to us. We will scan the photo for you and place it on your service dog ID tags. Remember to mail a copy of your receipt along with your photo. Mail it to:

Q. Can I get my tag order rushed? A. Yes, please call our customer service reps at 1-877-770-0789 for availability and cost. We charge the prices quoted on FedEx.com. We will quote you a price for FedEx shipping, if you agree to that cost you will be charged that amout and the FedEx shipping charge IS NOT REFUNDABLE once shipped.
Q. How long does it take to get service dog badges? A. You can see production and delivery times here.
Q. When will my package arrive? A. First class and priority packages ship by USPS. Overnight ships are delivered by FedEx. Please understand that once the tags ship we have no control over how long it takes USPS to actually deliver the package.
Q. How big are the tags? A. Regular size tags for large dogs measure 3.375" x 2.125" (85.6mm x 54mm) - standard credit card size. Our small tags are just the right size smaller dogs and measure 2 1/8" x 1 1/8".
Q. I don't want to enter my credit card info online. A. We understand, so you can call us at 1-877-770-0789 to place your order over the phone with a customer service representative, print out an order form and mail it or fax it to us.
Q. If I order online is my credit card information safe? A. Yes, all credit card purchases are processed by Authorize.net, the largest payment gateway provider in the world. Service Dog Tags NEVER has access to your credit card information when you place an order online. All credit Card information stays secure only with Authorize.net. Q. Can I buy service animal tags for my pet so I can take them anywhere? A.NO - representing a pet as a service animal is a federal offense and possibly subject to heavy fines and jail time if caught.
Q. Are your tags laminated? A. No - our tags are printed by a special security card printer. The ink is infused into heavy gauge plastic cards similar to a credit card.
Q. How do I get my dog certified? A. There is not federal agency that "Certifies or Registers" service animals. There are lengthy training programs that teach skills to both handlers and animals and at the end of the program they"Certify" that you and your animal have completed their training. Programs that state that they will certify your animal without any training are simply trying to take your money for a piece of paper that means nothing.
Q. Can I train my own service dog? A. Yes, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) you may train your own service animal.
Q. Are the service animal tags guaranteed? A. Yes, we guarantee our tags against breakage for a period of six months. Also if you are unhappy with our tags for ANY reason we will either replace them or provide you a full refund on the purchase price when returned to us. Q. How do I apply? A. There is no application process. If you meet the requirements at the very top of this page then your animal is a service animal.
Q. What forms do I need to fill out? A. None - If you state that you meet the requirements at the top of this page then you qualify to purchase service animal ID badges.
Q. Do I need to provide a Doctor's prescription? A. No if your animal is a service dog, If you meet the requirements stated at the top of this page then you qualify to purchase service dog ID badges. If you purchase Emotional support tags we don't require a prescription but airlines may require you present them with a note from your physician - check with the airline.
Q. Do you provide a certificate that my dog is a service dog? A. No, programs that state that they will certify your animal without any training are simply trying to take your money for a piece of paper that means nothing.
Q. Can I customize the tags? A. Your service animal's picture, name and the handler's name are the only things that can be changed.
Q. Does a service dog have to have ID tags, a vest or a certificate to be a service dog? A. No - the Americans with Disabilities Act), does not require certification or any type of identification to be protected under the ADA laws.
Q. Are dogs the only animals that can be service animals? A. Changes in the ADA law which went into effect March 2011 no longer allow animals other than dogs to be service animals. Therefore, we are no longer creating tags for animals other than dogs.
Q. I heard that if someone asks if my animal is a service animal I only have to answer 3 questions, what are they? A. 1 Are you disabled? The answer is yes if you are disabled according to the ADA. Businesses are not allowed to ask you what your disability is.
2. Is that a service animal? The answer is yes if the animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability.
3 What does your animal do for you? If you choose you may respond with vague answer such as "He helps me with a medical condition".

Q. Can I take my service animal anywhere? A. Yes, the ADA protects your rights to travel anywhere with your service animal.
Q. Can you tell me if my dog qualifies to be a service dog? A. No, we do not provide legal advice. The people at The Delta Society might be able to help.
Q. I live outside the U.S., can I buy tags? A. Yes, we now offer Canadian and International tags.
Q. I have a bad picture of my dog, will that work? A. We do what we can but the picture on your tag will look very much like the photo you send us.
Q. I made a mistake on my order, what do I do? A. Let us know as soon as possible by calling us at 1-877-770-0789. If they've already shipped you will have to return them to us so we can fix the problem and there is a $10 fee to make changes.
